Association Weltacker Switzerland

The World Field Initiative was created in 2013 by the Future Foundation for Agriculture in Berlin and illustrates the findings of the 2008 World Agriculture Report to a broad population. The World Field offers sensory experiences and invites people to think about and discuss soil, biodiversity, climate change, cycles, natural resources, global justice, agriculture and good food. In 2016, Urban Agriculture Basel (UAB) brought the Weltacker to Nuglar in Switzerland in cooperation with Solila Nuglar-Gärten from Berlin. After the response to the first Swiss Weltacker in Nuglar was greater than expected, the non-profit association Weltacker Schweiz was founded as an independent sponsor at the end of 2018. As a result, the Weltacker Attiswil was established in 2019 and the Weltacker Bern in 2021. Weltacker Switzerland thus acts as a link between the international Weltacker network and the national Weltacker initiatives. As a non-profit association, Weltacker Switzerland initiates, develops and supports initiatives that tell the “Weltacker story”, whether as a narrative environment in the form of a Weltacker or in the form of other creative educational modules, such as the multisensory Weltacker Apero with the motto “Learning through eating“. In particular, the association promotes knowledge about the importance of agriculture as the basis of life, nutrition and civilization in line with the World Agriculture Report and the Planetary Health Diet.

Mission

Weltacker Schweiz’s mission is to inspire children, young people and adults for fair and healthy nutrition and healthy livelihoods in the sense of the World Agriculture Report and to promote understanding of the diverse connections between our consumption and the basis of human existence in the sense of the Planetary Health Diet. This is done within the framework of narrative environments on the 2000 m² of world fields that have already been created in the most neutral, balanced and independent, data-based way possible.

In addition, we continue to support the existing world fields in a network-like manner and are also working towards creating a further 2000 m² of world fields within Switzerland. We are always open to exciting and co-creative collaborations.

We also enrich the international Weltacker network and proactively help shape it. In this way, we catalyze the international and intercontinental impact.

Key messages

The four most important core messages of Weltacker Schweiz are:

  • There is enough for everyone.
  • Healthy, colorful nutrition promotes healthy people and a healthy nature.
  • Every bite has its place and shapes the landscape.
  • Living soil – living organism

These core messages are creatively made comprehensible and tangible on the individual world fields in an age- and target group-specific way.
