Global Field Buffet Beds

How much arable land goes on your plate?

Set the table! How many acres does a schnitzel with fried potatoes need and how many a portion of spaghetti with tomato sauce? And how much does a glass of beer or apple juice add up to? The Buffet Beds show how much arable land all the ingredients of individual dishes require. To illustrate this, we have grown everything that goes into the dishes together in one place. In real life, these ingredients often grow thousands of kilometers apart.

The grain for the flour for baking and various vegetables come from the field, of course. But what does the schnitzel have to do with the field? A lot of soy grows on our Buffet Beds – as exemplary feed for animal products (milk, cheese, pork). One kilogram of pork, for example, requires just under nine square meters of arable land. We could harvest almost 18 kg of potatoes from the same area!

On many of the Global Fields and in numerous other places, these beds are being planted and the ingredients for delicious dishes are sprouting. For example, in addition to pasta and schnitzel, you can also discover kebabs, falafel, muesli and pizza. Do you know what you need to grow to cook these dishes? And how much space do you need for your lunch?

If you want to explore these questions, visit a Weltacker or take a look at our space calculator “Mym²”. Here you can also calculate how much space you eat per day. Is 2000 m² enough for you?

Create Buffet Beds yourself

Buffet Beds are small, educational installations that not only look good on Global Fields, but also in school gardens, educational institutions or public spaces, for example. Perhaps, for example, the green strips and parks in your city could be creatively designed with these beds? If you are planning to grow your own menu, we will be happy to send you instructions, cultivation plans and all the materials you need, such as print templates. Just get in touch with us!
