How much arable land is in my food?

The space calculator “Mym²” can be used to calculate how much arable land is used for dishes. How does it work? Very uncomplicated: simply enter the ingredients used in the corresponding quantities and the required area is automatically indicated. But that’s not all! The amount of food eaten is also put in relation to the available daily portion for nutrition (4.2 m²) of a person. This makes it quick and easy to check how much of the 2000 m² is left.

Why 2000 m²? A good 8 billion people currently live in the world and share around 1.6 billion hectares of arable land. For each person, this means around 2000 m² of arable land on which everything that is consumed in a year must grow. Divided by 365 days, that leaves 5.5 m² per person per day. For food alone, i.e. excluding clothing, energy, etc., this results in 4.2 m² of arable land.
